The problem of the Urban Environment is that green spaces are disappearing, that the quality of life is forsaken for developments – too much priority is given to building construction with the high return on investment to developers and tax to councils, and less of the ‘softer’ benefits such as health and strengthening of community.
The concept of a green grid, with a network running through an urban district or city breaks up the urban fabric and allows places for people to enjoy and come together for events, be they educational, entertainment , sporting or recreational.
This study investigates the idea of green grids and their relevance and applicability to Plymouth – how a grid would benefit the city and how creating one might be achieved.
