How community groups can encourage Plymouth Council to embed sustainable practice in their actions
Dave Ray, Julia Wilson, Kate Hutson, Charlotte Shobrook
With Transition Towns becoming an ever more important part of the sustainable urban landscape this project attempts to show how the transition movement could work in the context of Plymouth.
Totnes in Devon has been used as the main example of a transition town and Vauban in Germany provides a good example of community and council action used to reduce the community’s reliance on cars and oil based fuels.
By focusing on how the movements raised awareness, encouraged community involvement and engaged with the local authorities the information gleaned is used to project how the Plymouth populace and its elected representatives might create a more sustainably aware and focused city.
